IIAA Approved Products
Ensuring safety and performance by verifying insulation products that meet IIAA standards
What is a Verified Product?
The IIAA assesses all insulation products proposed for use in IIAA-warranted projects before they are installed. IIAA approved products must meet strict criteria, including compliance with Australian thermal performance standards and fit-for-purpose certification, in addition to disclosing information regarding combustibility, any harmful ingredients and environmental impacts.
Products that meet these criteria are awarded IIAA approved product status, signified by the approved product stamp.
By verifying products in advance, we assess their suitability for your home and ensure that potential risks, like combustibility or harmful ingredients, are clearly communicated, providing transparency about the insulation product proposed for installation into your home.
Key Features of Verified Products
The IIAA ensures that all Approved Products meet strict standards and declare essential information. To achieve IIAA Verified status, products must:
Comply with Australian standards for thermal insulation:
Verified Products must meet the requirements of AS/NZS4859.1, which specifies criteria for insulation materials in terms of energy efficiency.
Be independently certified as fit-for-purpose:
Products must be independently assessed for their suitability across various climate zones and building applications, such as roofs, walls, and floors.
Declare whether they contain harmful ingredients:
Products must provide a full list of ingredients used in their manufacture and identify any substances listed on the International Living Future Institute’s Red List—a list of materials that pose significant risks to human health and the environment.
Disclose whether they are combustible:
Insulation products must undergo testing to the Australian standard AS1530.1 to determine if they are combustible, ensuring this information is transparent.
Publish their level of embodied carbon:
Approved Products must declare their embodied carbon emissions in accordance with ISO 14025, providing transparency about the environmental impact of these products throughout their life cycle.
Comply with the IIAA’s Code for Product Information:
Manufacturers must provide clear, accurate, and unambiguous information about product specifications, performance claims, and certifications. This ensures transparency and enables homeowners and industry professionals to make informed decisions.
